About Lokarso
If the Bad News Bears and North Dallas Forty were a production company, they’d be Lokarso Media.
Founded by author and journalist Josh Karp, Lokarso is an independent production company that specializes in telling the untold – and under told – stories of American popular culture. From forgotten legends and larger-than-life figures, to the strangest, funniest, and most fascinating corners of sports, entertainment, literature and American history, Lokarso develops deeply researched documentaries, podcasts, and scripted film and television projects.
Our approach combines deep journalistic research, compelling characters, fast-paced storytelling and a healthy disregard for conventional wisdom, to create stories that are smart, provocative, funny, and, most of all, entertaining.
Josh Karp
Josh Karp is a journalist, producer and the author of A Futile and Stupid Gesture, which was adapted into a Netflix original film of the same name starring Will Forte and Joel McHale. His book Orson Welles’s Last Movie was the basis for Oscar-winning director Morgan Neville’s acclaimed Netflix documentary They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead, which Karp co-produced. He was also a consulting producer on the documentary Breakdown: 1975.
Karp has developed projects for and with Paul Giamatti’s Touchy Feely Films, Jimmy Kimmel’s Kimmelot, Cineflix, Tremolo, Antica and Playtone. His magazine work ha appeared in Vanity Fair, Esquire, The Atlantic, Salon and Air Mail. He has written about the making of Caligula, Miami Vice, The Big Lebowski, Dennis Hopper’s ill-fated Easy Rider follow-up The Last Movie and other films, as well as pop culture oddities like The Burt Reynolds Dinner Theater.
Karp’s journalism has taken him deep inside Hollywood, sports, comedy and American cultural history, where he’s spent nearly 30 years tracking down extraordinary characters, uncovering forgotten stories, and exploring the brilliance and absurdity beneath.
